Publium and AskAI — PrestaShop's native AI assistant and the SEO copilot, side by side

Updated on 25 Jul 2026

You've just learned that PrestaShop ships AskAI, its native AI assistant, built on the MCP Server module. Fair question, especially if you use or are considering Publium: is this redundant? Here's an honest answer — with nothing invented about either one.

The short answer

AskAI and Publium don't do the same job. AskAI is an assistant you query inside one store's back office; Publium is a content and SEO copilot that produces and steers over time, across one store or many. There is an overlap — owned up to below — but most of what Publium does falls outside AskAI's announced scope.

Where they overlap (let's be honest)

According to the official listing, the MCP Server can update product descriptions and SEO fields (title tags, meta descriptions, keywords) in several languages. Publium does that too. On that precise point — writing or fixing a product page — a merchant equipped with AskAI and a good AI provider will get good results.

We won't pretend otherwise. On one product page, a well-driven assistant does the job. Publium's difference here isn't "a better AI" but scale: batch generation, framed SEO formats (70 / 160 characters, Google result preview, target keyword checks), consistent tone across the whole catalog, publishing after review. The same logic applies to any conversational assistant.

Where Publium does what the announced scope doesn't cover

The blog

PrestaShop has no native blog, and the MCP Server listing exposes no blog tooling (its tools cover products, orders, customers, images and product SEO). Publium is built around a blog module and an article production chain. An assistant can write a text; it has nowhere to publish it as an article.

Proactive SEO

AskAI is reactive: it acts when you ask. Publium adds a proactive layer — Search Console connection, opportunity detection on clear rules (pages in striking distance, CTR gaps, pages losing ground, thin content, missing tags), and dated proposals for action. The difference between "answering a question" and "knowing what to do before anyone asks" is the whole point.

Multi-store steering

AskAI lives in the back office of one store. Publium is an application above the stores: one account, one portfolio, one shared dashboard. For an agency, that difference is structural — the detail is here.

Proof and process

Draft, review, versions, scheduled publishing, results report, approval links for a client: Publium is a traceable production chain. A conversation leaves no such trace.

What you take away, and where the text goes

This is the least spectacular difference and the most decisive in daily use, so let's write it down.

An assistant built into the back office acts inside the store: it changes a field, updates a description, fixes a tag. The result sits where it wrote it, and that's fine for day-to-day management.

Publium produces a piece of content, and that content is a deliverable you take away. Every article and every product description exists in four formats — Markdown, plain text, bare semantic HTML, HTML styled to your theme — precisely so the output doesn't depend on the tool that wrote it. You publish from the app if that suits you, or you paste the text into the route you already have: an integrator, another CMS, a client who approves before anything goes live.

What that buys you:

  • You're not locked in. The day you stop, published content is in your store and the texts are exportable. Nothing evaporates.
  • You can take the production only. Plenty of people don't need anything published on their behalf — they need one place where content gets made, with the SEO framing done. That use is supported.
  • The framing travels with the text. Target keyword, title tag and meta description to spec with a Google preview, links to your product pages, structured data: that work is done before you copy anything. It's where the gap opens up against a text simply asked of an assistant, which will be correct but unframed.

The table, plainly

  • Where it lives — AskAI: inside one store's back office. Publium: an app above your stores.
  • When it acts — AskAI: on demand. Publium: on demand and continuously (detection, scheduling).
  • Product descriptions — both can do it; Publium adds batches, SEO formats and consistency.
  • Blog — outside AskAI's announced scope; the core of Publium.
  • Search Console / opportunities — outside AskAI's announced scope; built into Publium.
  • Several stores — AskAI: one at a time. Publium: a portfolio.
  • What comes out — AskAI: a change applied inside the store. Publium: content delivered in four formats, to publish or to take away.
  • Prerequisites — the MCP Server requires PrestaShop 8.2+ and PHP 8.1+, and the assistant ships natively from 9.2 onwards; Publium's module targets a wider base, from 1.6.1 to 9.

Our position

We see AskAI's arrival as good news: it validates the idea that a store has a context an AI agent can read and enrich — the idea Publium is built on. Use AskAI for day-to-day management in your back office. Use Publium when it comes to producing content at scale and steering SEO over time, across one store or many — or simply to centralise the writing and take the text away. The two complement each other far more than they compete.

One closing remark. On a 9.2 store the native assistant is already there and costs nothing extra. So the question isn't "which of the two", it's "what am I still missing once I have it". Our answer is short: a place where content gets made, an SEO framing that travels with the text, and a memory of what has been published. If those three things aren't missing for you, the native assistant is enough — and we'll say so in a demo too.

The simplest thing is to judge for yourself: book a demo. We start from your real catalog, and in fifteen minutes you'll see what sustained production adds to what an assistant already does.
