Which AI module should write your PrestaShop product descriptions?
Published on 23 Oct 2026 · 7 min read
It depends on your version first, then on who pays for the AI. On 1.7, 8 or 9, the modules from Webkul ($49), Knowband ($69.99), Addify and PrestaHero (€139.99) generate descriptions and tags from the back office by calling ChatGPT or Gemini, usually with your own API key: the AI bill then comes on top of the module's price. None of the four announces 1.6. Publium does, from 1.6.1 to 9: it works outside the back office, on a subscription with the AI included, around one target keyword per product.
Search for "AI product description module" on PrestaShop and you find modules that look alike on their Addons listing and differ on three points the listing rarely puts forward: which fields they actually fill, how the AI is billed, and which versions they cover. This comparison puts five modules in the same table, then says what each one covers.
The information comes from the publishers' pages, checked on 23 October 2026. When a page doesn't specify something, the table says "not specified" rather than guess. Publium publishes one of the five; it is presented in the same format as the others, limits included.

| Module | Price | Versions announced | What it writes | Bulk | AI bill |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| AI Content Generator ChatGPT (Webkul) | $49, 3 months of support included | 1.7, 8 and 9 | Short and long descriptions, meta title, meta description and keywords for products; categories, brands, suppliers, CMS pages | Yes | Your OpenAI account |
| ChatGPT Content Generator/Translator (Knowband) | $69.99 | 1.7 to 8.2 | Product titles, descriptions and metas; category names and descriptions; translation | Yes | Not specified; ChatGPT 3.5 and 4.0 engines announced |
| AI Content Generator (Addify) | Yearly subscription; the page shows several amounts, $79 to $99 for the first year | 1.7.0 to 9.1.4 | Short and long descriptions, summaries, metas for products and categories | Yes, for products | Your OpenAI or Gemini key; Gemini 2.5 Flash Lite as a free option |
| Free Translate & AI Content (PrestaHero) | €139.99, one license per domain | 1.7 to 9 | Product descriptions and summaries; translation of the whole site | Not specified for writing; bulk translation | Your API key |
| Publium | Module supplied with a plan from €19 to €249 a month | 1.6.1, 1.7, 8 and 9 | Description, title tag and meta description around a target keyword, with a Google preview; blog posts | Yes; 150 pieces of content a month on Pro | Included in the subscription |
One name comes up often in these searches without appearing in the table: Sedestral. Its module writes and publishes blog posts, not product descriptions; it is compared with the others in our comparison of free blog modules.
How good is each AI module for product descriptions?
AI Content Generator ChatGPT by Webkul
Webkul's module covers the most fields in the table: products, but also categories, brands, suppliers and CMS pages. It offers 23 prompt templates, accepts your own, generates in bulk and tracks token usage with an approximate cost, which keeps the AI bill readable. You need an OpenAI account, and the model list is recent (gpt-5.2, gpt-5-mini, o3, among others). It suits a store on 1.7 to 9 that wants to fill many fields cheaply and accepts paying OpenAI separately.
ChatGPT Content Generator/Translator by Knowband
Knowband's module writes product titles, descriptions and metas and category texts, and translates all of it, including right-to-left languages. It processes the catalog in bulk. Its page announces PrestaShop 1.7 to 8.2, not 9, and ChatGPT 3.5 and 4.0 engines, older than the ones Webkul announces; it doesn't say whether an OpenAI key is required. Check both points on the listing the day you buy: the latest version dates from June 2025.
AI Content Generator by Addify
Addify's module is the only one in the table to offer two AI providers, OpenAI and Google. The "free" in its name refers to Gemini 2.5 Flash Lite, which the publisher presents as suited to testing and light workloads; for production, it points to the paid models. It covers descriptions, summaries and metas for products and categories, with prompt templates that take variables. It is paid yearly, and the publisher's page shows several amounts at the time of checking: count on $79 to $99 for the first year.
Free Translate & AI Content by PrestaHero
PrestaHero's module is first a translation module, connected to Google, DeepL, ChatGPT and Bing, among others; ChatGPT writing of product descriptions and summaries comes on top of that base. It is the most expensive of the back-office modules, and the one with the most reviews: 99, averaging 5 out of 5. The license covers a single domain. The "Free" in the name refers to the free quotas of some translation services, not to the module. It suits a multilingual store whose first job is translation.
Publium
Publium doesn't live in the back office. A module, supplied with the plan and never billed separately, connects the store to an application that reads the synced catalog, suggests one target keyword per product, rewrites the description, the title tag within 70 characters and the meta description within 160, works through products in bulk, then shows the Google result preview before sending the page to PrestaShop through a signed API. Only those fields are touched, in the requested language. When a product has no text and no features, the AI can start from the photo and describe what is visible, without inventing the rest. The same subscription also writes blog posts. It is the only module in the table announced on 1.6.1, and the AI is included in the plan: no key to provide, no second bill. In return, it is a monthly subscription, €19 to €249 with no commitment, where back-office modules are bought once. The details are on the product descriptions page.
How do you choose an AI module for product descriptions?
By version first. On 1.6.1, the table comes down to Publium. On 8.2 or 9, check Knowband's listing, which stops at 8.2 at the time of checking. In between, the whole table applies.
By real cost next. A $49 module that calls OpenAI with your key costs $49 plus usage, which depends on the number of products, their length and the model chosen. On a catalog of a few dozen products, the gap is small. On several hundred, ask who will keep an eye on the AI bill, and whether a module that displays it, like Webkul's, or a plan that includes it, like Publium, makes life simpler.
By method last. A back-office module fills a field from a prompt: quality depends on what you give it, product by product. Copy-pasting into ChatGPT has the same limits, only slower. What makes a product page rank is one target keyword per product, tags at the right lengths and a text that doesn't copy the supplier's description. Check that the module helps on those three points, not only that it writes fast.
What does no AI product description module do?
None of them correctly invents what it doesn't know: dimensions, materials and compatibility come from your catalog or from you, and an AI that guesses them creates returns. None guarantees a ranking either. The module puts a better text on the page; what makes a description that sells remains a matter of choices, product by product. Start with the products that already get impressions in Google, then widen.
FAQ
Is there a free AI module for PrestaShop product descriptions? Not quite. Addify offers Gemini 2.5 Flash Lite for free, but the module itself is paid yearly, and the publisher keeps that model for testing and light workloads. The other back-office modules are paid at purchase, plus AI usage.
Do you need an OpenAI key to write product descriptions with a module? For Webkul, Addify and PrestaHero, yes, or a Gemini key for Addify. Knowband's page doesn't say. With Publium, the AI is included in the subscription.
Which AI module for product descriptions on PrestaShop 1.6? At the 23 October 2026 check, Publium is the only one of the five announced on 1.6.1. The four back-office modules start at 1.7.
Can an AI module write a product description with no text or features? Back-office modules start from what the product page contains and from your prompt. Publium can start from the product photo and describe what is visible, without inventing what can't be seen.
